Viable Cities is a programme focused on innovation for climate-neutral and sustainable cities. Viable Cities has contributed to Swedish actors driving international development in smart and sustainable cities through disruptive innovations, policy development and research. The program's timeframe is 2017-2030. The KTH Royal Institute of Technology is the host organization of the program.

Viable Cities is led by KTH and brings together around 50 stakeholders in various areas of research, industry, government, local authorities and civil society. I am a research leader of a multidisciplinary research group UrbanT - Urban Analytics and Transitions - with two main research areas – Smart Urban Metabolism (SUM) and Transdisciplinary studies for urban transitions (TRUST). Viable Cities – the strategic innovation programme for smart, sustainable cities – is the largest research and innovation initiative taken in Sweden so far in the field of smart, sustainable cities.
